Food Shopping

We are big believers in buying from and supporting our local shops – and we are lucky enough to have some fantastic butchers, grocers and delicatessens right on our doorstep – here is our list of the best nearby, and it’s worth noting that we have a well stocked herb garden for guests to use outside the kitchen at Mount Amelia.

All the major supermarkets can deliver your shopping to the house, which can be unpacked before you arrive. Please contact us directly to find out more.

 Priors Butchers (St. Nicholas Court, Dersingham PE31 6GX - Tel: 01485 542 589)

A five-minute drive up the road, this butcher is well known locally as selling the highest quality meat, and rightly so. They also have some great quiches and pies and stock a variety of seasonal vegetables. They are happy to take pre-orders by phone and, as we have a special relationship with them, are happy to deliver your shopping to the house prior to your arrival. Please contact us for more information.

Walsingham Farm Shop (Norfolk Lavender, Lynn Road, PE31 7JE - Tel: 01485 570002)

A 10-minute drive from the house, we love this place! Amazing bread, large variety of seasonal fruit, vegetables, meat and cheeses. Really you can find anything you need at this great farm shop – we highly recommend the bread!

The Norfolk Deli (16 Greevegate, Hunstanton PE36 6AA - Tel: 01485 535540)

A short 15 minute drive up the coast this place has the finest selection of cheeses in the area. The Montagnolo is superb! Along with a delicious array of olives, tapenades and coffee, this is also a great place to get sandwiches and food for a picnic.

Drove Orchards Ltd (Drove Orchards, Thornham, PE36 6LS - Tel: 01485 525857)

A great place to go to pick up food if you happen to be eating at the Yurt or Eric’s Fish and Chips, they sell great fruit and vegetables, best known for their delicious apples and apple juice. Gurneys Fish Box is right next-door and is in our opinion the only place (apart from their sister shop in Burnham Market, see below) to buy your fish from locally. We love the Brill, the fishcakes are outstanding and there is always a wide selection of crabs, mussels, lobster and fresh fish.

Humble Pie Foods (Market Place, Burnham Market, PE31 8HF - Tel: 01328 738581 )

One of the best delicatessens in the area selling the best bread, oils, jams, chutneys, and home made cakes – they do literally have everything and it’s all delicious!

Gurneys Fish Shop (Market Place, Burnham Market, PE31 8HF - Tel: 01328 738967)

As mentioned above, this is the best place to go and buy your fish. Always fresh and well stocked (see above) they also have a great selection of homemade products; mayonnaise, crab pate, salsa Verde, tartare sauce to name but a few. Highly recommended.
